Hundreds of enthusiastic Redlands locals have last night rallied in Alex Hills to throw their support behind the re-election of Henry Pike MP.
With the Prime Minister set to call an election early this year, the groundswell of support evident at the Alexandra Hills Hotel sent a strong message that Mr Pike and his supporters are ready and raring to go whenever the starting gun is fired.
In his remarks, the Member for Bowman called for competent, back-to-basics national economic management to get Australia back on track, as well as greater investment in the local Redlands community.
“There’s a simple question that I’m going to be asking the people of the Redlands at this election,” Mr Pike said. “Are you better off than you were three years ago?”
Through his doorknocking across the electorate, Mr Pike said the resounding answer to that question is ‘no’, especially in the Redlands, where federal investment has lagged.
“We will not be able to maintain our quality of life unless we get very serious about investing in the local infrastructure that we need,” Mr Pike said.
Alongside 380 locals, Mr Pike was joined by Shadow Minister for Defence, Defence Industry and Defence Personnel, the Hon Andrew Hastie MP, who endorsed Mr Pike’s re-election.
“Henry is a fighter. Whether it’s to protect our flag, or for a fair go for his community of the Redlands, he has ticker, he’s got heart, and he has a backbone,” Mr Hastie said.
“If you want to rein in government spending, if you want to get inflation down, if you want cheaper energy, if you want to restore our standard of living, if you want greater social cohesion, if you want pride in our country, our values, our institutions and our flag, then you need strong leadership,” Mr Hastie said.
“And that starts here with the re-election of Henry Pike.”
Mr Pike said it was humbling to have the support of his local community.
“Redlanders put their faith in me at the last election. I’ve worked hard to represent this community as best as I can, and I look forward to continuing to do so. Tonight’s turnout showed that our community is ready for greater investment in the Redlands and a federal government that gets our country back on track.”
