Capalaba Metro Extension

Capalaba Metro Extension

The 2032 Olympic Games provides a rare opportunity for the Redlands to benefit from investment in local infrastructure projects. Beyond the money to be spent on sporting venues, the next decade will see transport improvements made across South East Queensland to facilitate the Games.

The local project that would have the most long-term value to the Redlands is an extension of Brisbane’s new ‘Metro’ system from Coorparoo to Capalaba.

This would drastically reduce travel times for Redland commuters and unlock exciting opportunities for Capalaba to transform into a thriving commercial, dining and cultural precinct. This connection would also be a first step towards an express public transport corridor from the CBD to Victoria Point and Redland Bay.

There is a strong justification for this project to be funded as part of the Olympics expenditure as it would provide a high speed connection from the CBD to the many venues at the Sleeman Sports Center in Chandler and the whitewater facility set to be constructed in Birkdale.

We've already secured bi-partisan support to fund the required studies, but that is just the starting point.

I'm working hard in Canberra to ensure that once the due diligence is done, we are able to proceed with this project and make it a reality.

Let's not miss the bus on this once in a generation opportunity.
