The Redlands Tigers have marked a major milestone with their first game under the new lights at Peter Burge Oval, delivering new opportunities for players, juniors and the wider Redlands cricket community.
Federal Member for Bowman Henry Pike MP said he was proud to have helped secure funding for the project through the previous Coalition Government’s SEQ City Deal and SEQ Liveability Fund, alongside support from all three levels of government.
“This is a fantastic outcome for the Redlands Tigers and for cricket in our community,” Mr Pike said. “These new lights mean more cricket, better training opportunities and greater participation for juniors and women, while allowing one of Queensland’s best suburban cricket grounds to host night cricket.”
The project comes at an exciting time for the Redlands Tigers, who enter this year’s KFC T20 Max competition as defending champions following their outstanding title-winning campaign last year.
Mr Pike said there was no better way for the Tigers to begin their title defence than under the new lights at Peter Burge Oval.
“Last year’s championship was a brilliant title win, and I’m looking forward to watching the Tigers in action again this season.”
Mr Pike noted the new infrastructure was an important investment in the future of cricket and community sport across the Redlands.
“It is about much more than lights on a cricket ground. It is about giving more people the opportunity to play, train and enjoy cricket, and ensuring our local sporting facilities keep pace with the growth of our community.”
