The iconic EGW Wood Sports fields at Wellington Point, home of the mighty Redlands Tigers, are set for an exciting transformation with a $1.1 million funding pledge from Henry Pike MP if a Dutton Coalition Government is elected early next year.
This commitment promises to deliver much-needed upgrades to training and playing facilities, ensuring the Tigers continue to be a cricketing powerhouse for years to come.
"The Redlands has a rich history of cricket success and a strong pipeline of talent coming through the ranks," said Henry Pike MP, Member for Bowman.
"With cricket set to be included in the 2032 Olympics, this funding is a significant step toward turning the venue into an Olympic training hub and a potential site for T20 games."
This transformative investment builds on the groundwork already laid through the SEQ City Deal, which has delivered lighting upgrades. A commitment from the new LNP State Government will deliver a new women’s changeroom and bathroom block at the Ron Field Oval.
However, the growing demand for cricket facilities in the region highlights the critical need for enhanced training infrastructure to support the club’s expansion vision.
Cricket Australia has identified the redevelopment of the Tigers’ Peter Burge Oval as a national priority to grow women’s participation in the sport. This funding will fast-track the venue’s evolution into a state-of-the-art facility for both grassroots and elite cricket.
The $1.1 million investment will upgrade training facilities, including the installation of new turf practice nets.
"This commitment is a win for community sport, offering Redlanders more opportunities to stay active, increase their skills, and grow our local community club," Mr. Pike said.
“From state and national representatives like Marnus Labuschagne and Sam Heazlett to local junior teams, every cricketer will benefit from these upgrades."
Sean Lloyd, President of Redlands Cricket has welcomed the commitment.
“As President and a passionate supporter of cricket, I can’t thank Henry enough.” said Mr Lloyd
“This investment will provide much needed support in the growth of sustainable programs for cricket players of all ages. In line with Redlands Cricket strategic planning, Henry Pike and the Dutton Coalition have provided a genuine commitment for competitive options in hosting community and pathway carnivals, training camps for elite teams coming to Brisbane and significant opportunities for the 2032 Olympics”.
The Dutton Coalition’s pledge ensures the long-term legacy of the Redlands Tigers Cricket Club, building on support from the State LNP and the SEQ City Deal.
