The LNP have announced that if elected, a Dutton Coalition Government will invest $6.2 million over two years to upgrade Headspace Capalaba as part of a continued effort to support the mental health of Redlanders.
Improving mental health services and steps towards suicide prevention remain one of the Coalition’s highest priorities.
This announcement towards the youth-centred Headspace Capalaba continues the mental health advocacy and efforts of Federal MP for Bowman Henry Pike, that included the establishment of the Redlands Medicare Mental Health Centre and the commitment to doubling the number of Medicare-funded mental health sessions.
Mr Pike said ensuring access to first-class mental health services for Redlanders remains a priority for the LNP.
“For many Redlanders, mental health is a daily battle,” Mr Pike said.
“Those who struggle are our family, our mates, and our neighbours. This commitment will go a long way to supporting them in their journeys navigating mental health and its place within their lives.”
The LNP’s $6.2 million commitment will boost capacity at Headspace Capalaba, ensuring young Redlanders will benefit from additional support workers and youth mentors.
This investment builds on the LNP’s proud record of strengthening and increasing access to mental health support for young Australians.
The Redlands Medicare Mental Health Centre in Cleveland that Mr Pike fought to secure has been operating since the end of last year, delivering timely support to those in crisis or in need.
Additionally, the Coalition’s previously announced commitment to reinstate the 20 Medicare-subsidised psychology sessions a year that Labor halved will support Australians with their long-term mental health needs.
Mr Pike said he was pleased with the commitment to Headspace Capalaba, and looked forward to continuing to support mental health initiatives in the Redlands.
“The Coalition are committed to increasing youth mental health services, providing crisis support, and providing long-term support to help Australians navigate their mental health journeys.”
“To those in our community who are struggling: we want you to reach out to get the support you need. Help is at hand, and more available than ever.”
