Disaster Recovery and Hardship Support available

Following the cyclone, I joined forces with our city’s State representatives to appeal for our city be declared eligible for disaster support.
I am pleased to confirm that this declaration has now been made, ensuring that eligible locals can receive disaster recovery and hardship support to assist in the clean-up.

What support is available?

🛠️ Disaster Recovery Payment
A lump sum payment for adults and children if you've been seriously and directly affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
This payment is not for minor damages or inconveniences. To be eligible, at least one of the following should apply:
✅  Tropical Cyclone Alfred caused major damage to your home or a major asset or assets that you own at your home
✅  You were seriously injured
✅  You're the immediate family member of an Australian citizen/resident who died or is missing
To be eligible, you must also be an Australian resident, or meet other residence rules.
Eligible adults will receive $1,000, while eligible children will receive $400. These payments are not taxable.

Claims must be made by 10 September 2025 at the latest.
🛠️ Disaster Recovery Allowance

A short-term support payment to assist Redlands employees and sole traders who have suffered a loss of income as a direct result of the event.

To be eligible, you must: 

✅  Work or live in the Redlands (or other declared Local Government Areas)
✅  Have lost some, or all, of your income as a direct result of Tropical Cyclone Alfred
✅  Have seen your income fall below the average Australian weekly income of $1,924.60
✅  Be over the age of 16
✅  Are an Australian resident, or meet other residence rules

Claims must be made by 8 September 2025 at the latest.

If you’re eligible, you’ll get the maximum equivalent rate of JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance, depending on your personal circumstances. Disaster Recovery Allowance is a taxable payment and needs to be included in your tax return.

🏠 Hardship Grants
The Redlands is also an eligible area for the Federal and State Government’s Hardship Grants which includes a range of grants to assist with the purchase of emergency essentials, the replacement of damaged household items, and income-tested assistance for property structural repairs and the reconnection of essential services.

Small Business/Organisation Support

Small businesses, primary producers, and not-for-profits can now also access concessional recovery loans​​​​​​​, funded by the Commonwealth and State Governments, to help rebuild and recover.
