The Redlands community is set to benefit from a $3.8 million investment in Champions Support Services, with Federal Member for Bowman Henry Pike MP announcing the funding commitment to help struggling families put food on the table.
If a Dutton Government is elected this year, Mr Pike and the Coalition will deliver the funding to construct a new Champions Support Services facility in Thornlands, which will include a grocery store, community café, counselling rooms, workshops, and fully equipped fridges and freezers to support those in need.
“The past few years have been tough for everyone,” Mr Pike said.
“As local families and pensioners struggle with ballooning inflation and rising costs of fuel, rent, mortgage, and groceries, facilities like Champions Support Services have seen demand skyrocket.”
“In just two years, Champions Support Services has seen a four-fold increase in locals seeking help.”
Champions partners with OzHarvest, Woolworths, Foodbank Queensland, and Second Bite to secure food for the Redlands community. As cost-of-living pressures mount, food banks and similar services are facing record demand.
Mr Pike said the funding commitment was crucial to ensuring Champions Support Services could continue its vital work.
“The work Champions do in our community is life-changing for many Redlanders,” he said.
“By committing to this crucial investment if we are elected this year, we will secure the future of Champions Support Services as they grow and expand, ensuring they can continue their outstanding work in our community.”
