For 75 years, the volunteers of the Point Lookout Surf Lifesaving Club have been the guardians of safety on North Stradbroke Island’s beaches, dedicating thousands of hours to protecting both locals and visitors.
The club is now set for a transformative upgrade, with Henry Pike MP announcing a $7 million commitment to construct a modern new clubhouse if a Dutton Government is elected at this year’s federal election.
This investment aims to provide lifesavers with the infrastructure they need to enhance their essential services and strengthen their role as a community hub.
“The Point Lookout Surf Lifesaving Club patrols a coastline that’s far larger than most suburban clubs, all while operating with fewer resources and serving a smaller population base,” Mr. Pike said.
“Their efforts have saved countless lives, and it’s time they had facilities that match the scale of their responsibilities.”
The planned clubhouse will feature modern and accessible resources to support lifesaving operations, improve training capabilities, and ensure the safety of patrollers. In addition, the new facility will provide opportunities for the club to generate sustainable revenue, reinforcing its role as a vibrant hub for the community.
This announcement builds on efforts by Amanda Stoker MP, Member for Oodgeroo, and the Crisafulli LNP State Government, which have committed to delivering a long-term lease for the club at its existing headland site. Securing this lease is a crucial step toward realising the club’s vision for the future.
“This isn’t just about bricks and mortar,” Mr. Pike emphasised. “It’s about ensuring the safety of our beaches and preserving the legacy of this iconic club for generations to come. The community’s support will be critical in turning this vision into reality.”
The $7 million investment represents a major step forward for the Point Lookout Surf Lifesaving Club, securing its ability to continue its life-saving mission for another 75 years and beyond.
