Pike Urges Heritage Bank to Ensure Local Redlands Branches Remain Open

Henry Pike MP is seeking the intervention of the Heritage Bank Chief Executive to save the Capalaba and Victoria Point branches from imminent closure.

The Member for Bowman’s intervention comes after the recent announcement from Heritage Bank that they intend on closing both of their Redlands branches along with eleven other branches across the state.

In a letter to Heritage Bank’s Chief Executive, Mr Pike expressed his disappointment with the bank’s decision to close branches in Victoria Point and Capalaba, and noted that local Redlanders will lose out as a result of this announcement.

“Heritage Bank customers in Capalaba and Victoria Point have chosen to bank with your institution because they believed it offered something different—personal service and genuine relationships that big banks cannot provide,” Mr Pike wrote.

“This closure undermines that trust and leaves customers with fewer options.”

While the last few years have seen branch closures across the country from all banks large and small, Mr Pike said that these latest closures were even more disappointing because of Heritage Bank’s promises to protect local customers.

Mr Pike expressed disappointment in the decision because the Federal Government recently approved the merger of Heritage Bank and People’s Choice Credit Union on the basis that the bank would not abandon any communities that they current service.

“The tagline ‘People first’ should mean something. If Heritage Bank is truly committed to that principle, it must explore alternative options to keep at least one of these Redlands branches open,” Mr Pike urged.

“Losing both branches in our city is a significant blow to local customers, as well as the wonderful staff who have served our community so well for many years.”

“I am urging Heritage Bank to reconsider this decision and find an alternate solution that protects Redlands consumers.”
