Redland workers negatively impacted by the recent South East Queensland lockdown are being encouraged to apply for the Federal Government’s COVID-19 Disaster Payment.
LNP Candidate for Bowman, Henry Pike, said that the lump sum payments seek to help workers who lost income due to movement restrictions over the last two weeks.
“For many Redland families the lockdown has resulted in a very serious loss of income,” Mr Pike said.
“The Federal Government’s COVID19 support payments are aimed at relieving some of the pressure off these workers and doing it as quickly as possible.”
“If you lost eight or more hours of work during the lockdown period, I’d strongly encourage you to apply.”
Eligible workers who have lost less than 20 hours of work during the lockdown can receive a $450 lump sum payment. For those who lost more than 20 hours, a $750 payment is available.
Redlanders can apply for the payment, or find further information, by visiting www.servicesaustralia.gov.au
“The application process is quick and painless and the payments can be processed within a 24 hours,” Mr Pike said.
Businesses and sole traders are encouraged to consider applying for State Government business support payments.
Mr Pike said that the Morrison Government was working to suppress the virus and deliver the vaccine, while supporting Australia’s economic recovery.
“There’s now been over 14 million vaccine doses administered across the country and this is increasing by over 1 million each week.” Mr Pike said.
“The priority is to deal with the immediate health and economic crisis, but if Redlanders keep getting vaccinated in the numbers they are it won’t be long until lockdowns, border closures and restrictions are a thing of the past.”
